Our Young Folks published works by almost every nineteenth-century
writer for children, from Sophie May to Harriet Beecher Stowe; it also
featured fine engravings, including a handful by Winslow Homer.
While the periodical’s run ended in 1873, because my interest is only in
works through 1872, the last year is not indexed here.
Alphabetized by author’s real name (where known); use control-F
to search for pseudonym. Author’s birth/death dates appear after the name;
titles are in alphabetical order. Number after each title is made up of the
following: year.month.pages. For pieces of music, listed author wrote the
words to the song. For engravings, “drawn by" is the one given credit,
except in the case of Landseer and of Frederick Church.
KEY: /chromo = chromolithograph; /e = engraving; /p = piece is a poem;
