Robert Merry’s Museum featured fiction, non-fiction, and works that were a combination of the two. It also printed poetry and music, as well as excerpts from works for adults, such as Herman Melville’s Typee. A major feature of the magazine was “Merry’s Chat with His Friends”, where letters from subscribers were printed; this column was the single most popular section of the magazine and made the readers feel like a large familiy, rather than just a collection of subscribers.
